Laundry List of Ingredients
The developing science of Toxic Metabolism:
Interactions between chemicals used in Cosmetics is a developing science. We can interpolate the risks of chemicals interacting in the skin with the identical problem of ‘Poly-Pharmacy’. Poly pharmacy is a known problem for those taking 5 or more drugs. Interactions between the drugs as well as altered metabolism between the drugs can result in some terrible side effects. Cognitive impairment is an example of a Poly pharmacy side effect that develops over time. In the cosmetics world, accelerated aging and susceptibility to cancer / auto immune problems also develop over time. The skin is a metabolic factory with enzymes & immune cells evaluating & altering the chemicals absorbed through your skin. Dumping a shotgun full of chemicals into this factory is just not a good idea.
Some effects are immediate. Cetereth-20 + Cetearyl alcohol are common cosmetic chemicals. These are very mildly comedogenic when used independently. Their comedogenic rating individually is 1. This is a mild comedogenic score versus a severe comedogenic score of 4. When both chemicals are used in a cosmetic however, their combined comedogenic score increases to 4.
